Next month on April 11th is the first annual Illinois Marathon. Christie Clinic (where I work) is the main corporate sponsor of the race--very exciting! The race includes a marathon, marathon relay, 1/2 marathon, 5K, and kids 1K fun run. The races go throughout Champaign-Urbana, and end at the U of I stadium on the 50-yard line. Being the corporate sponsor, it was only fit for someone from Christie to be on the planning committee for the race, and that someone happens to be me. I'm the "medical liason" for the race, meaning I'm in charge of planning everything medical; ambulances, bandaids, ivs, cots, medical records, procedures, communication, and the list goes on and on. As of yesterday, the marathon was close to being cancelled because not enough people had stepped up to volunteer. Word spread quickly, but it was a STRESSFUL day. There were a lot of us on the edge of our seats, wondering if all of our hard work was going to be for nothing. Luckily, the panic worked, and we got over 300 more volunteers by the end of the day. This morning I got an email that we are on for good! I'm thrilled :) Hopefully tonight I will sleep better than I did last night. I've still got some details worked out, but it's all finally coming together. You know, you really don't realize what goes in to planning something so huge, until you're actually doing the planning. It's been nutso! I'm glad it's almost over.
Luckily for me, my job is over on April 10th. The only thing I have to worry about the day of the race is crossing the finish line when I'm running it :)
