I've seen the "thought-flow" of a run type posts and have always thought they were amusing. But, I've never written down my own thought-flow of a run. Without further ado, my 7 miles today:
(Getting out of the car)
Crap, my phone says it's 41 degrees now, instead of 35. I dressed for 35. It's only going to get warmer. Am I overdressed? Forget the jacket. Just go.
Shoot, I forgot my sunglasses at home.
Damnit, it's colder than I thought. I'm going back for my jacket.
No I'm not.
Yes I am.
No I'm not.
Yes I am.
No I'm not. Jeez, that lady in the car probably thinks I'm insane for turning around like 80 times. Just make up your mind, Jill!
I'm getting my jacket.
Phew, that's better. I'm glad I have this jacket. I actually really love this jacket.
It's gorgeous out here.
Man, my achilles is hurting.
My legs are so tight.
Ugh, this run sucks. I hate this. Why am I doing this?
No one is looking. I could just turn around and get in the car and go buy ice cream and sit in a parking lot on my phone for like an hour.
Don't be stupid. You need to do this run. Shut up and get your butt in gear.
Okay. half a mile. That wasn't bad. Only 6.5 more to go.
Shit. 6.5 more miles?! I'm going to basically die.
Why are there SO MANY hills in Lake of the Woods, when there are NONE in Champaign?? It's like 8 miles away! I hate hills. But they're making me stronger.
Stop complaining and get into the swing of it. Come on, Jill.
2 miles. Okay. I'm just going to stretch for a second.
Ahh, that feels so good. This will probably help.
Wow, I can't believe how pretty it is outside! I can't wait til we can move to Mahomet. Such a beautiful town.
A map! great. Stop and stare at the map, you can rest with a reason.
A rest already?! What the heck is my problem?! That bike trail on the map looks like it might be fun to run on. Maybe I'll head for that instead of running the same stupid road path three times. What if I get lost though? I won't get lost. It's not that hard to find. I hope the map is to scale. What if it's like 20 miles instead of 7? Just go. I can always turn around.
Hey, there's that girl running that I saw when I was driving here! She looks like she's running barefoot. Is she running barefoot?? Maybe I can catch up with her.
What if I catch up with her? That will be totally awkward. What would I say? Introduce myself? Ask her about barefoot running? Is she seriously running with no shoes on? She's crazy. Maybe those are just beige shoes. Who has beige shoes? Just try to stay a good distance away.
WHERE DID THIS HUGE HILL COME FROM??
3 miles. Okay. I think I see the bike path sign. Aw bummer, my "running friend" is turning. Guess I won't get to ask her about her feet.
HOLY SHIT, driver!! Do you not SEE ME ON THE ROAD! You could at least slow down instead of running me into the snowy ditch!! Ugh. Drivers. Seriously. I could have been killed. Why didn't I bring my phone?
There's the bike path sign. The path doesn't look too bad. Just solid ice and snow. I'll give it a shot.
This is kind of fun.
I'm going to break my stupid ankle.
Jill, this is stupid. Why are you being so stupid? Turn around. There is NO way you can do this for 3.5 more miles.
But it's building up my ankle muscles.
But I might die. In the middle of the woods. And I can't relax while running on this. This is stupid. Turn around.
Wow, I'd love to live in that house. Backing right up to the bike path! So pretty.
I'm walking. I wish I had brought my yaktraks to wear. I'd own this path if I had those on.
AAAHHHH!! A barking snarling dog!! Okay, he's behind a fence. But that fence comes up to like, his chest. He looks scary. Should I walk away or run away? Jog. Jog and don't look the dog in the eye. Ohmygosh he's going to jump that damn fence. Jog faster. What if the dog catches me and starts chowing down on my legs? I'll have to scream for help. What if no one comes? Why didn't I bring my PHONE?!
Alright I think I'm safe. Where's the stupid road? How long did I actually jog on this death path?
There's the road. My shoe is all slipping now.
I'll stop and retie them. Both of them.
My tights are falling down. No wait, that's my underwear. Just yank them both up and keep going.
Okay, I think I'm falling into the swing of things.
I feel awesome! Look at me, owning this GIANT hill!! I am awesome. Kept my pace and everything.
Why is my Garmin not tracking my pace accurately? There is no way that I'm running that slowly. I wonder if the gps isn't working because of all these trees?
Running is great. I can't believe my lungs and legs are capable of this...pretty impressive.
I need to do more PiYo.
"I care about you in a bikini, hamstring!" I love Chalene Johnson. She knows her stuff.
Aw, listen to the kids laughing and playing! Love it. Can't wait for my own kids to be old enough to play outside without me. I want to move to Mahomet.
Stop thinking about moving to Mahomet. We're going to be in this house for like at least 5 more years.
I could start making a list of things I want in our next house, and then show it to Jason in 5 years and tell him I've been working on it for a long time, and he'll think that's amazing and thoughtful and romantic and say we can start looking for my dream house.
No he won't, he won't give a shit. There is no way he's going to want to move away from his office that he built.
Seriously, WHERE is the entrance to Lake of the Woods park?? Did I miss it?
Okay, 5 miles. Kicking ass. Go Jill. I'm going to definitely walk when I get back into the park. I earned a short break, right?
Um, why did I not bring water? I wonder if I can find some clean snow to eat...
This is clean enough.
Stop staring and smiling at me, old man. Yes, I am eating snow. I'm thirsty and forgot water.
I'm going to walk for a few minutes. This feels good. I'm totally into this run! This day is gorgeous! This park is gorgeous! This run is awesome!
I'm going to start picking up the pace these last two miles.
Where is the covered bridge?? Shouldn't I be there by now? My legs feel great. I could totally have done 8 miles. Better to keep it at 7 though, just in case.
Look at those other runners! In shorts! I probably look so stupid in my jacket and tights. I am getting hot. I should have left the jacket in the car.
Soon it's going to be summer and I'm going to have to go running at like 4 in the morning to not be sweating to death.
Am I really considering training for a full marathon in the fall? How would I nurse Oliver? Would I have to take a nursing break in the middle of the race? Weird.
That's stupid. Don't do it. I was basically dying a mile into this run.
I'm totally feeling awesome now, though.
13 miles is nothing. I could do a half marathon right now if I wanted to!
Why is that girl smiling at me so weirdly? Do I have snot all over my face?
3/4 of a mile to go. Crap, I can see my car way up there. Should I just call it at 6.25 and round up?
NO WAY. Get going.
I'm running past these people again. They probably think I'm nuts.
Okay, almost done. Back to the car.
Come ON, Garmin. Just get to 7 miles already! I'm going to have to run around the damn parking lot to get to 7 miles. 6.97, 6.98, 6.99, COME ON. My legs feel like lead. These people have got to think I'm crazy running circles around my car.
FINALLY! 7 miles!
That was easy. I could totally do that again.
Half marathon, here I come!
