Mojo is apparently suffering from separation anxiety. I got a bummer of a phone call today at lunch from Jason, who told me that Mojo ate (and threw up) our guest book from our wedding, which was in a bag in the spare room. My fault for leaving it where he could get it, but I just never thought he’d go rooting through it. The first couple of weeks of us leaving Mojo out of his crate while we were gone were fine, but now he’s out of control. After reading about it, I’ve found out that:
- He needs to be walked at least 30 minutes before we leave in the morning. Chances are, he just has too much energy and not enough to do during the day.
- He needs toys that keep him better occupied. Pet Supplies “Plus,” here we come!
- We should not say goodbye to him when we leave, just ignore him.
- We should not greet him immediately when we get home, just ignore him for a few minutes.
- We can get a “plug in” (basically an air freshener) with a scent that is calming to dogs.
- We’re spoiling him by playing with him/petting him too much (basically all the time). I guess that happens when you don’t have a life :)
We’re going to try all of these things, including having absolutely every single thing possible picked up out of reach. If nothing improves, he’ll have to go back in his crate everyday.
I'm annoyed.
